MAJOR CASE SQUAD MAKES ARREST IN HOMICIDE

On Saturday, February 18, 2023, the Greater St. Louis Major Case Squad was activated after North County Cooperative Police Department received a call for a deceased subject inside of a residence on the 7800 block of Utica Drive. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene and appears to have died from gunshot wounds. The victim was identified as:

Stevens, John
43 years old
Hanley Hills

After conducting their initial investigation, the following suspect was identified and arrested by Major Case Squad detectives:

Winebarger, Terry
50 years old
Cuba, Missouri

Charges were presented to the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office Sunday morning and the following charges were issued against Mr. Winebarger:

• COUNT I: Murder 1st Degree – Class A Felony
• COUNT II: Armed Criminal Action – Unclassified Felony

Although the investigation is still ongoing, detectives do not believe this was a random crime and preliminary evidence supports that the two subjects were acquaintances.

Terry Winebarger is currently being held at the St. Louis County Justice Center on a $1,000,000 cash-only bond.
